The Center for Dynamical Systems at Penn State has a strong and active group working in the broad spectrum of disciplines related to the theory of Dynamical Systems. At present, this Dynamical Systems group consists of a large group of faculty members and twelve graduate students. The program includes a weekly dynamics seminar, two weekly working seminars, a graduate student seminar, special lecture series, graduate and undergraduate courses, and a major annual workshop in Dynamical Systems. The group members actively participate in the organization and teaching in an innovative semester-long MASS Program for undergraduate students from U.S. colleges and universities which started in the Fall of 1996. The group members have a wide range of complementing and overlapping research interests that include smooth ergodic theory, dimension theory, KAM theory, symplectic geometry, geodesic flows, dynamics of singular spaces, conformal dynamical systems, dynamics of large group actions, mechanics, rigidity theory, lattice systems, spectral theory on manifolds, and applications to physics, engineering, and biology. This combination of interests and activities has allowed them to create a flourishing world center of research and education.
