Snowbird Meeting Turns Chaotic

Snowbird Meeting Turns Chaotic

At the recent SIAM Conference on Dynamical Systems, several hundred attendees attempted to replicate an excitable system by organizing into a human spiral wave. Georgia Tech graduate student Andrea Welsh, who helped to direct the efforts, reports on the results of the experiment, including a video of the event.

3rd Bremen Winter School and Symposium: Diffusion on Fractals and Non-linear Dynamics

The international winter school and symposium with over 60 participants attempted to bridge a rather disparate set of topics: diffusion on fractals, quasi-crystals, non-linear waves and chaotic dynamics. Somewhat surprisingly, this worked out rather well.
