The ICMC Summer Meeting on Differential Equations – 2013 Chapter was held February 4-7, 2013 at the Universidade de São Paulo in São Carlos, Brazil and celebrated the 70th birthday of Hildebrando Munhoz Rodrigues.

The meeting brought together more than 190 researchers in the field of differential equations, from more than 17 different countries, with plenary talks given by Valentin Afraimovich, Luís F. C. Alberto, José M. Arrieta, Alfonso Castro, Marcelo Moreira Cavalcanti, Shui-Nee Chow, Julio Ruiz Claeyssen, Djairo Guedes De Figueiredo, Tomás Caraballo Garrido, Jerome Arthur Goldstein, Michael Li, Coraci Pereira Malta, Seyed Moghadas, Marian Mrozek, Tere M-Seara, Waldyr Muniz Oliva, Antônio Luiz Pereira, James Cooper Robinson, Carlos V. Rocha, Shigui Ruan, Björn Schmalfuss, George Sell, Arnaldo Simal, Joan Solà-Morales, Roman Srzednicki, David Edward Stewart, Marco Antonio Teixeira, Carlos Tomei, Hans-Otto Walther, Jianhong Wu, Yingfei Yi, and Huaiping Zhu.

The local organizing committee was composed of Alexandre Nolasco de Carvalho, Ederson Moreira dos Santos, Ma To Fu, Márcia Cristina Anderson Braz Federson, Marcio Gameiro, Matheus Cheque Bortolan, and Sérgio Henrique Monari Soares. The opening talk was presented by Luís F. C. Alberto from EESC/USP in São Carlos. Prof. Alberto is a former PhD student of Hildebrando and, in his presentation, highlighted Hildebrando’s academic and scientific contributions as well as some of his personal life experiences during more than 45 years as a Professor at the University of São Paulo in São Carlos.

In August 2013, Prof. Hildebrando Rodrigues retired, after working for more than 45 years at the University of São Paulo in São Carlos. During this time, Prof. Rodrigues published more than 40 papers and advised more than 40 students, ranging from undergraduates to PhD students.

The ICMC Summer Meeting on Differential Equations is held every year at the Department of Mathematics of the ICMC in February, which is during the summer vacation in Brazil, in the week that precedes carnival.
