The 9th AIMS Conference on Dynamical Systems, Differential Equations and Applications
was held from July 1-5, 2012 at the Hyatt Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Florida. I am
typically apprehensive about very large conferences, they can be impersonal, frustrating
and tiring. Fortunately, in my case, none of this occurred at this one. The venue was not only
beautiful, but the set up was ideal for a scientific gathering with plenty of tables to sit down
and have discussions. The number of parallel sessions was impressive, 84 Special Sessions and
10 Contributed Sessions. But, from my own experience and talking with other delegates, there
seemed to be few sessions with overlapping topics.
The plenary speakers chosen were of high quality and they delivered very good talks; there was a
pleasant mixture of theoretical, applied and numerical topics; a little bit for everyone. The plenary
speakers were A. Friedman (Ohio State), A. Majda (NYU), A. Bertozzi (UCLA), J.M. Sanz-Serna (Valladolid),
M. Dellnitz (Paderborn), S. Terracini (Milano Bicocca), J. Wu (York, Canada), Y. Lou (Ohio State)
and E. Feireisl (Academy of Science Czech Republic). The plenary speakers also contributed papers
for a special issue of DCDS-A.
