It is our pleasure to announce the following event:
March 12-16 2018 the winter school and symposium "Dynamical systems and turbulence” will take place at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Bremen, see www.wis-turb.math.uni-bremen.de/.
It is the 6th winter school in a series devoted to themes in dynamical systems.
Please forward this announcement to students and colleagues who may be interested to participate. We would also be grateful for advertisement in your departments using the enclosed poster.
The event features mini-courses aimed at PhD/advanced MSc students, postdocs and interested senior participants, and a number of daily research talks that complement the lectures and form an embedded symposium.
Participants (especially students) are invited to present a poster.
The winter school part consists of the following mini-courses, which also set the topical direction of the event:
"Limits to turbulent transport & dissipation: bounding solutions to equations of fluid mechanics & other dynamical systems", Charles Doering (University of Michigan, USA)
"Spatiotemporal chaos", Paul Manneville (Laboratoire d'Hydrodinamique de l'Ecole polytechnique, Paris, France)
"Recent advances in the subcritical transition to turbulence", Dwight Barkley (University of Warwick, UK)
and "Turbulence closure modelling in the coastal ocean: the essential effect of stable stratification on vertical mixing" (single lecture) by Hans Burchard (Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research, Warnemünde)
The speakers for plenary research talks are:
Marie Farge (École Normale Supérieure, Paris, France)
Björn Hof (Institute of Science and Technology, Vienna, Austria)
Ana Maria Mancho (ICMAT, Madrid, Spain)
Juan Pedro Mellado (MPI Metereology, Hamburg, Germany)
Thomas Boeck (Technische Universität Illmenau)
Genevieve Brett (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, USA)
Francesco Ragone (University of Milan, Italy)
Olga Shishkina (MPI for Dynamics and Self-organisation, Germany)
Lennaert van Veen (University of Ontario, Canada)
Michael Wilczek (MPI for Dynamics and Self-organisation, Germany)
The (early) registration fee is 75 Euro, students are eligible for a reduction upon request. The registration contact is Mrs. Ebba Feldmann (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Some options for possible sources of travel support are listed at the link www.wis-turb.math.uni-bremen.de/funding.html.
