Postdoctoral Scholar in the Nonlinear Dynamics of Swimmers in Complex Flows

Event date: 10/27/2018 12:00 AM Export event

The Physics Department at UC Merced announces an open position for a postdoctoral research scholar with expertise in nonlinear dynamics and chaos. The funded project concerns the dynamics of swimming agents in (potentially chaotic) fluid flows. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Prof. Kevin Mitchell. This work involves a collaboration with Prof. Tom Solomon at Bucknell University, and part of the postdoc's time will be spent at Bucknell during the summer, helping to mentor undergraduates. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in nonlinear dynamics and will have a strong record of independent, creative research. Candidates with experience in chaotic transport in fluids are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should have a recent doctoral degree that, owing to the interdisciplinary nature of this work, could be in a number of different disciplines, including Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering.
