Periodic orbit continuation in the Hindmarsh-Rose model: canard explosion.

Chaos in the Hindmarsh-Rose model induced by canard explosion.

"Melting manifold" foliated by the periodic orbits emerging through a supercritical Andronov-Hopf (AH) bifurcation no longer ends up at the homoclinic bifurcation but through a secondary, canard-initiating AH bifurcation that is due to the interaction between the slow and fast subsystems of the Hindmarsh-Rose model.
