The Physics Department at UC Merced announces an open position for a postdoctoral scholar with expertise in nonlinear dynamics and/or theoretical biophysics. The funded project concerns the dynamics of swimming agents in complex fluid flows. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Prof. Kevin Mitchell. This work involves an experimental collaboration with Prof. Tom Solomon at Bucknell University, and part of the postdoc's time will be spent at Bucknell during the summer, helping to mentor undergraduates. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in nonlinear dynamics and will have a strong record of independent, creative research. The successful candidate should have a recent doctoral degree that, owing to the interdisciplinary nature of this work, could be in a number of different disciplines, including Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering.
