Industry experience at The Aerospace Corporation

Lael Fisher, a recent PhD from Northwestern University, has found a professional home in the Navigation and Geopositioning Systems Department at The Aerospace Corporation in Los Angeles, California. Recently, Chad Topaz had the opportunity to ask Lael about her transition, which includes a switch from fluid dynamics to orbital dynamics and a switch from individual research to a team environment. Lael discusses the scientific and career development aspects of her recent experiences in this Q&A interview.

Interview with Freddy Dumortier

Freddy Dumortier is well known for his work in bifurcation theory, blow-up techniques and slow-fast systems. His 60th birthday was celebrated in April 2007 in Hasselt and Brussels with the conference Dynamics in Perturbations. Bernd Krauskopf used this opportunity to talk to him at the Belgian Academy of Sciences Building about his views on the field of dynamical systems.

UK Dynamical Systems Graduate School

The UK Dynamical Systems Graduate School consists of four one-week schools in different locations around the UK and on different topics in Dynamics. The general level of the schools is introductory to intermediate and in particular the schools are specifically aimed at graduate students and researchers who are not necessarily specialists in the topic of the school.

Nonlinear and Complex Systems Laboratory at POSTECH, Korea

Since its establishment in 1990 in the Department of Physics at Pohang University of Science & Technology in Pohang, Korea, the Nonlinear and Complex Systems Laboratory (NCSL) has operated as one of the key centers of nonlinear science in Korea. DSWeb Tutorials Competition '07

DSWeb held a student competition for online tutorials in dynamical systems. The two winning entries are interactive self-paced tutorials that would be of interest to students beginning to learn the subject. They appear in the DSWeb tutorial section.

SIAM Conference on Applications of Dynamical Systems

Snowbird 2007 took place May 28 - June 1 with more participants than ever. Luz Vela (Georgia Tech, Atlanta) was there and also took part in the sessions organised by the Association for Women in Mathematics; her report offers an insider's view of both Snowbird and AWM activities.
