Mathematics and Arts in Leeuwarden

The eleventh annual Bridges conference on Mathematics and the Arts took place in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, July 24-28, 2008. Bernd Krauskopf (University of Bristol, UK) gives a personal account of what this conference is all about and what it has to do with dynamical systems.

Bifurcations inDynamical Systems with Applications

Climate Math in San Diego

Recently elected SIAG/DS chair Mary Lou Zeeman describes the special session on the mathematics of climate change at the Joint Math Meetings in San Diego in January, 2008. She lists a series of other ongoing efforts and upcoming conferences on the dynamics of climate change, and describes how members of the dynamics community can contribute both in research and in terms of education to tackle problems of climate change and sustainability.

Penn State Maryland Semi-Annual Dynamics Workshops

Penn State and the University of Maryland have held a joint semi-annual dynamics workshop since 1989. The workshops include cutting edge dynamical systems talks. The upcoming spring workshop will include the unveiling of a new journal.

SIAG/DS election results

The results of the October 2007 elections for officers of the SIAM Activity Group in Dynamical Systems can already be announced. We introduce the new SIAG/DS team and thank those who participated in last fall's elections.

SIAM Conference on Applications of Dynamical Systems

Snowbird 2007 took place May 28 - June 1 with more participants than ever. Luz Vela (Georgia Tech, Atlanta) was there and also took part in the sessions organised by the Association for Women in Mathematics; her report offers an insider's view of both Snowbird and AWM activities.

Topics in Nonlinear Dynamics and Complexity

In the week of February 19-23, 2007, a workshop was held in Puebla, Mexico on "Topics in Nonlinear Dynamics and Complexity". The workshop brought together physicists and applied mathematicians working in nonlinear dynamics and related complex systems. Mike Henderson (IBM T. J. Watson Research Center) was there and reports on the meeting.
